此處演唱出自電影《浮華新世界》(Vanity Fair, 2004)，作曲者為 Mychael Danna，演唱者為 Custer LaRue。丁尼生 (Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1809-1892) 是英國維多利亞時代桂冠詩人，他的詩對音韻和節奏的營造下過不少功夫，奧登 (Auden) 稱讚他說：「在所有英國詩人當中，丁尼生擁有最好的耳朵。」朗讀他的詩，是一種音聲交響的動人經驗，也因此作曲家們很喜歡將他的詩譜成音樂。

電影攻其不備中，男主角大麥克有美式足球天份，為了申請上好大學，請了家教老師來惡補功課，老師教導到丁尼生名作『輕騎兵進擊』，紀念克里米亞戰爭600輕騎兵對決俄國砲兵陣地從容赴義的故事。大麥克養父特別有感觸地參與討論，也引發大麥克寫了一篇關於勇氣的小論文。

大麥克寫下了他的心得『勇氣與榮譽』：

focusing on the difference between courage and honor.

Courage is a hard thing to figure.

You can have courage based on a dumb idea or a mistake,

but you’re not supposed to question adults, or your coach,

or your teacher because they make the rules.

Maybe they know best but maybe they don’t.

It all depends on who you are, where you come from.

Didn’t at least one of the six hundred guys think about giving up and joining with the other side?

I mean, Valley of Death, that’s pretty salty stuff.

That’s why courage is tricky.

Should you always do what others tell you to do?

Sometimes you might not even know why you’re doing something.

I mean, any fool can have courage.

But honor, that’s the real reason you either do something or you don’t.

It’s who you want to be.

If you die trying for something important then you have both honor and courage and that’s pretty good.

I think that’s what the writer was saying; that you should try for courage and hope for honor.

And maybe even pray that the people telling you what to do have some, too.

理解勇氣是件很難的事。
