英國桂冠诗人(Poet Laureate)丁尼生（Tennyson）所做的名詩『尤利西斯』（Ulysses）由於意境深遠，詞語優美，是最常出現在英語電影裡的詩。

尤利西斯是希臘神話裡的人名，也是羅馬神话中的奥德修斯——荷馬史詩《伊利亞德》中的英雄人物之一。希臘聯軍圍攻特洛伊期間，奥德修斯英勇善戰，足智多謀，屢建奇功。他獻木马計裡應外合攻破特洛伊，结束了這場歷時十年的戰爭。在率領同伴從特洛伊回國途中，因得罪了海神波塞頓，從而屢遭波塞頓的阻饒，歷盡各種艱辛危難，於海上漂泊十年后終於返回故鄉伊塔卡，並同儿子厄勒瑪科斯一起，殺死糾纏他妻子、揮霍他家財的求婚者，闔家團員，這個故事就是另一篇荷馬史詩《奧德賽迷航記》。丁尼生的《尤利西斯》則為我们續寫了奥德修斯回到伊塔卡島的后續故事，勾劃出一位“烈士暮年，壯心不已”的老年英雄的形象。

《尤利西斯》是丁尼生的獨白詩。全詩可謂一篇奥德修斯即将再度揚帆起航的別離詞。他意氣風發，居高臨下，面對妻兒、朝臣和即將與他一道搏擊風浪的老水手們傾吐肺腑之言。這篇别離辭洋洋灑灑，慷慨激昂，英雄的氣魄与豪邁酣暢淋離地呈現在我们面前。詩人用其獨特的視角，為我們呈現出英雄人物另外的面貌，荷馬史詩及奧德賽迷航記之後的大英雄不甘寂寞的『退休生活』，老人也有老人的榮耀和擔當，英雄似乎還想再尋找另一座舞台發熱發光。面對無情的人生，有時候我們不得不藉由詩來抒發心中的情感。（文章引用自網路）

來看Ｍ夫人在法庭上朗誦這一段鏗鏘有力的詩（這段朗誦也預示了Ｍ夫人的命運）：

電影『春風化雨』當中，男主角尼爾也在高中詩社神秘聚會中朗誦『Ulysses』，與Ｍ夫人引用的是同一段：

相比之下，Ｍ夫人的年齡與心境就與小朋友尼爾念出來的效果有顯著的差異，Ｍ夫人是更適合詮釋這首詩的人。

『金盞花大酒店2』中，在桑尼婚禮上引用的一段話：

I cannot rest from travel; I will drink

Life to the lees. All times I have enjoyed

That loved me, and alone; on shore, and when

Through scudding drifts the rainy Hyades

Vexed the dim sea. I am become a name ;

The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks;

The long day wanes; the slow moon climbs; the deep

Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

Push off, and sitting well in order smite

The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds

To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths

Of all the western stars，until I die.

It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;

It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,

And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though

下面這段同時出現在電影『春風化雨』及『007空降危機』中，是全詩最有名的一個段落，閱讀這一段瞬間，我想到曹操的龜雖壽『老骥伏枥，志在千里。烈士暮年，壮心不已』，與這段落語意有異曲同工之妙，，不知道丁尼生是否曾經受到這位三國時代前輩的啟發。

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are,

we are——One equal temper of heroic hearts，

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.

這樣毫無益處：當個閒散國王，

深居山岩中，坐在靜靜的爐旁，
